Just when you thought you’d seen them all, we’ve added seven new products to our lentils & heirloom beans section. The cure for the common legume, heirloom beans & lentils are far more interesting than the humdrum pulses sold in most supermarkets. Check them out!
The seven new varieties are:
Adzuki Beans (Azuki Beans) – used in Japanese & Chinese desserts!
Black Garbanzo Beans (aka Black Chickpeas) – black-skinned garbanzos – same flavor, different color!
Flageolet Beans – a beloved classic in France, Flageolets are immature limas.
Jacob’s Cattle Beans (aka Trout Beans) – cook them like kidney beans to enjoy their earthy, slightly sweet flavor and light speckles.
Marrow Beans (aka Marrowfat Beans) – Perhaps the most interesting new variety…many people feel creamy marrow beans have a slightly meaty/bacony flavor.
Pink Beans – A rounder, smaller, pinker pinto-style bean…great in chili and cold bean salads!
Petite Golden Lentils – unusually round for lentils, this variety cooks up soft with a mild, earthy flavor.
Have a ball with beans, let loose with lentils! They’re affordable, tasty, really good for you, and available in a huge variety of shapes, colors, and flavors.
