Homemade Ketchup Recipe
Making ketchup from scratch takes time, but it’s surprisingly easy. The results are totally worth it too!
INGREDIENTS
- 1 tbsp Canola Oil or other High Heat Oil
- ½ Onion, small diced
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/3 cup Tomato Paste
- 14 1/2oz can Diced Fire Roasted Tomatoes
- 1 ½ tsp Blackstrap Molasses
- 1 tbsp Honey (we used Shipwreck Wildflower Honey)
- 2 tbsp + 2 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
- Spice Mix:
- 1 Clove
- ¼ tsp Allspice Berries
- 1/8 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- ¼ tsp Mustard Seed
- ½ tsp Salt
- 1/8 tsp Ground Cinnamon
DIRECTIONS

Put the oil in a small pot over medium-high heat. Add the onion, garlic & ½ tsp of salt. Saute for 5-7 minutes, until the onion is translucent.

Add the spices to the pot once the onions are translucent. Toast the spices, stirring frequently, for about a minute, until they’re aromatic.

Stir in the tomato paste along with 1/3 cup water. Stir in the tomatoes (undrained), honey, the 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and the molasses.

Reduce the heat to medium low and simmer for 30-45 minutes.

Stir in the remaining teaspoons of apple cider vinegar.

Remove from the heat, pour into a blender, and blend until smooth. Let the ketchup cool, then enjoy!
