How to Scale a Cocktail Up for a Pitcher Drink
Everyone loves a good cocktail, but when you’re entertaining, making them to order can be a lot of hassle- both for you and your guests. Scaling up your favorite cocktail to a pitcher cocktail will give you that extra special touch you’re looking for without all the extra effort! It’s easy to do, we promise. All you need is a pitcher, a lot of booze, and a little know how!
The key to scaling up your favorite cocktail for a pitcher drink is to figure out the ratios of the drink you’re making. For the drink we’re making, we need 1 part Honey Drinking Vinegar, 2 parts Grapefruit Juice, and 3 parts Rye Whiskey.
Once you’ve got the ratios on lock down, you can figure out how much of each ingredient you need to make a (much) larger version in the vessel of your choosing. Not sure how much liquid your vessel holds? Just fill it up with water using a measuring cup to find out!
The pitcher we used held about 10.5 cups of liquid, so using our established ratio, we came up with the following equation for our drink: 1 ¾ cups Honey Drinking Vinegar + 3 ½ cups Grapefruit Juice + 5 ¼ cups Rye Whiskey = one delicious pitcher full of cocktail.

ASSEMBLE YOUR INGREDIENTS:
- 1 part Honey Drinking Vinegar
- 2 parts Grapefruit Juice
- 3 parts Rye Whiskey (we used Bulleit)
- Garnish (Optional): Grapefruit Zest Twist
Combine the Honey Drinking Vinegar, Grapefruit Juice, and Rye Whiskey in a pitcher or serving vessel of your choosing.
Stir well to combine.
When you’re ready for cocktail hour, we recommend setting the pitcher out next to a bucket of ice, and a bowl of Grapefruit Zest Twists so your guests can serve and garnish their drinks themselves!
Or if you’d like to serve the drinks yourself, pour into a glass filled with ice and garnish with the Grapefruit Zest Twist.
