Nudie Foodies is a recipe/photo book published by a group of food bloggers to raise money to help Japan recover from the recent Earthquake and nuclear disaster. 100% of the proceeds are donated.
Because Matthew blushes just walking past a Victoria’s Secret billboard & Justin possesses more appreciation for “provocative photography,” we’ve decided to split the review in two.
As a Photo Art Book
Review by Justin Marx
If you are the type that reads Playboy just for the stories, then you’ll like the Nudie Foodies cookbook. But, if you are like me and you like cooking AND sexy partially nude women covered in food, then you’ll really like the cookbook. If hairy guys with food in their naked laps is your thing, then you might like it too (but that is not my area of expertise, so who am I to judge?).
In all seriousness, my hat is off to this sexy cadre of delicious food bloggers for volunteering their time and their art to support the Japan relief effort. Their recipes are on point. Much of the photography is exceptional. And if you buy the cookbook you will not only have whatever pinup suits your fancy and a great collection of recipes, but you will be donating money to the Japan relief effort. So, go pick up a copy. You’ll like it.
As a Cookbook
Review by Matthew Johnson
The 18 dishes in Nudie Foodies cover a range that’s hard to define. Though the book is a charity effort to help Japan, they are not Japanese cuisine. Though the book is avant garde, only some of the recipes are (Octopus Smoothie & Chocolate Wasabi “Cheesecake,” I’m looking at you).
Ultimately what brings all sides of this book together is a devotion to flamboyant decadence. Pot pie, roast turkey legs, rack of lamb, flourless chocolate cake, peanut butter-bacon-banana ice cream and more are all ready to push your drool button.
The recipes of the Nudie Foodies have a certain je ne sais quoi that’s guaranteed to draw you in…even if you feel that octopus smoothie is just one step too far.

I’m happy the recipe’s are Japanese Food. It would be extremely difficult for me to replicate. I have a copy and must agree, the photo’s are mostly very elegant and professional. Love many of the recipe’s.
Excellent project!!!!!!
Would love see this group replicate the idea for a cause in this country such as money to buy food for food banks. Though I totally believe relief for Japan is a wonderful cause as well.
