Six bloggers (well, seven if you count Ravenous Couple as two) turned their cameras on the most unassuming of ingredients, salt. If that sounds boring to you, keep in mind that shooting salt is extremely difficult. We sent each photographer samples of the following: Hawaiian Red Salt, Hawaiian Pink Salt, Ginger Salt, Espresso Salt & Flor de Sal, and the results were gorgeous.
Staff Food Photographer Ryan picked The Ravenous Couple’s photos as the strongest dual submission of the bunch, citing their creative use of the salts, separation of each salt to let the eye enjoy the qualities of each, and the most even lighting.
Joanne of Eats Well With Others won the reader poll…we can’t read the voters’ minds of course, but we assume the neat strata-effect in her salt shaker and intriguing visual textures of her prepared dish photo were what stood out to them.
Both Joanne and the Ravenous Couple win Edible Microflower Blends … the ultimate photo plate finisher…
Thanks again to everyone who entered. If you haven’t seen their photos, you really should take a look. They’re total eye candy. Here’s a link to the gallery.
And once you’ve done that, you should go visit the photographers’ blogs too…
