We’re really excited about these new Pink Salmon products .  They’re very environmentally friendly, affordable, high quality, and caught by a small family-run fishing company.  Most importantly, they’re delicious.  Really delicious!

Wild-caught Pink salmon (aka Humpback salmon) is a species you may not have heard of, as it is usually found only in cans.  This is because the exceptional tenderness of this fish, while delightful on the plate, makes it very susceptible to being mangled by large-scale commercial fishing techniques (like the use of vacuum tubes).  So it must be either handled very gently or damaged and canned.

Here’s some fun salmon facts…Pink Salmon:

•  Are the most tender salmon species.
•  Are one of the most abundant wild salmon species, making them affordable and sustainable.
•  Spawn at a younger age, and eat lower down on the food chain than most salmon.  This means there is less bioaccumulation of toxins in their bodies.
•  Are one of the smaller salmon species, making them much more manageable in the kitchen or on the grill.

The fishermen operating the two family fishing boats who supply this salmon are committed to:

•  Fishing in a sustainable fashion off the coast of Alaska using gillnets, which have a very low percentage of bycatch in salmon fisheries.
•  Cleaning and refrigerating the fish at sea for a fresher catch than those often brought in by large boats.
•  Hand-carrying the fish from the boat upon reaching harbor to protect them from damage.
•  Flash-freezing their catch on land to maintain this high level of freshness.

In addition to whole Pink salmon, and bulk Pink salmon fillets, we also offer Pink salmon eggs (aka Ikura), honey flavored smoked Pink salmon and pepper flavored smoked Pink salmon.

The medical community has been buzzing about the health benefits of consuming salmon regularly.  Unfortunately many more popular types of wild salmon are expensive, forcing people to consider significantly inferior farmed salmon.  Wild Pink salmon provides the answer to this dilemma with a great price, excellent eating qualities and sustainability.
