An Ode to Morels

Dear Mr. Morel, or Morrell, or Morell
(Are you male? It’s hard to tell.)
Though you’re often shy,
I’ve never known a more fun-gi.

Sautéed, baked or fried,
Your flavor never tied,
How happy I am to find you again
Your tender texture a perfect ten.

A few months to behold your majesty
(the wait ‘till next year a travesty)
It would impugn my morals
Not to gorge on morrels.

Forgive me, I couldn’t resist the urge to wax lyrical about one of my favorites, fresh morel mushrooms.
