We knew this Candy Cap recipe challenge was going to be delicious, but we were blown away by some of the recipes submitted. The task was to create an original recipe using Candy Cap mushrooms and these 10 challengers created everything from risotto to cupcakes. Thank you to all of the bloggers who participated, we loved your creative recipes!

Check out all of the entries here, just make sure you’re wearing clothes you don’t mind drooling on…

Now that you’ve had a refresher of all of the entries, it’s time to announce the victorious recipes.

The first victor, chosen through the public poll, is Flavor Appraiser! Your Candy Cap Cornbread Stuffing recipe was clearly a hit! Perhaps a few Thanksgiving tables will toss the regular ol’ stuffing this year and go for this tasty alternative!

And the second victor, chosen by the Marx Foods staff and the bloggers is Cookistry! We loved your Candy Cap Crusted Rack of Pork and the entire meal you created.

We must give honorable mention to two more bloggers whose recipes we also loved…Romeo Cucina’s Stuffed Acorn Squash with Moroccan-Style Candy Cap Filling was a hit with us and was very close in the polls. And last but not least, Okay, Check it Out’s Forest Floor Donuts had us drooling for days. We loved the spruce tips in this recipe, so as the name says, check it out!

Congratulations to Flavor Appraiser and Cookistry! Now it’s time to choose your spoils. You both get your choice of goodie from the following list: a risotto sampler, a large yuzu sampler or dried mushroom sampler or 2 more ounces of dried candy caps. And to sweeten the deal, you’ll both receive an extra $50 credit to use on MarxFoods.com.

Thanks again to everyone who participated!

  1. Wow, this is so cool! Thanks to everyone who voted for me. I’ve got to say that just participating in these contests is a win, because we get to sample products that we might not otherwise have a chance to use. I never heard of candycap mushrooms before this, and I’m glad I had a chance to work with them.

  2. Cookistry sponsors the Virtual Potluck and then just “happens” to win this challenge? Just a coincidence? Hmmmm…

  3. Hi Lizzy! I was the tie breaking vote on this challenge … and I found Donna’s use of candy caps to be inspired and delicious-sounding. The pork in Donna’s recipe is also from us, a prize she won in a prior contest. She obviously has some magic and happens to be wonderful … but we don’t play favorites. So, yes it was a coincidence, Lizzy.

Our second winner, the Flavor Appraiser, also had a great recipe and I don’t think she has ever sponsored or won anything here before.

Hang out for a while … you will find that while are contests aren’t absolutely perfect, we respect the integrity of our contess and take pains to be as fair and generous as possible. Thanks for weighing in … if you have other concerns, now or in the future, please ALWAYS speak up.
